Our first Trail X Art was an exciting idea for me... it felt like everything I loved could finally come together: nature, art, my army life, creativity, and all the lessons I’d gathered through the years. It wasn’t just a programme; it was a piece of who I am.
But I knew I couldn’t do it alone. So I asked my friend Mingyan for help. She’s a talented artist ... calm, creative, and full of great ideas. She was the first person who came to my mind the cool name Trail X Art actually came from her.
Mingyan took care of the art direction, while I focused on the programme planning & how the flow would go, the route, the pacing, and the safety aspects. I must have gone for recces at MacRitchie Reservoir more times than I can count. Each visit, I’d walk the trails, take notes, imagine where the kids would stop to draw, and think about how to keep everything safe and fun. Safety was always at the top of my mind.
Once everything felt ready, we decided to do a small soft launch. We invited some friends and their kids to join us. It wasn’t a big event, but it meant a lot. Seeing the children explore, draw, and enjoy the outdoors… that was when I knew Trail X Art had something special. It was the start of a journey that combined learning, creativity, and nature... all in one trail.
